I had the absolute pleasure of being a guest on the Marilyn Denis show (Nov 21) and wanted to share the experience with you.
When I was asked to come on the show and discuss my experiences of having 2 strokes and my new book, I was overcome with joy! This is the queen of Canadian media after all!
Being on a daily talk show with a live studio audience….colour me very excited! I walk in the studio at 299 Queen Street West in downtown Toronto and cannot contain my excitement. As I wait for the producer, I can see the set of the show and hear the laughter and chatter among the audience as they wait in line to enter the set. I try to take it all in AND remain calm.
The delightful producer greets me with a warm hug and gives me the run down and sequence of events. All the details really (!!) help me.
First up is makeup. Man oh man, the make-up artist is a genius! For the most part, I wear little to no makeup in my daily life so I thoroughly enjoy this new experience of seeing how she does it all.
Next up is hair and to my surprise she asks me if I did my hair myself?! I confidently say YES…I did do my hair! (*silently giving myself a pat on the back as I get the professional’s approval.*)
Then I go to another room where the producer and other guests on the show are. We run through the segment and now I can’t wait to get out there.
As I get mic’ed up and feel the energy of the audience, I silently pinch myself and remind myself to enjoy every second of this time.
From the moment I sit down on set – Marilyn Denis’ warmth is pervasive. She is smiling and I automatically feel safe and in good hands. She has a remarkable ability to make me feel comfortable and excited (vs nervous). I somewhat forget that there are many many eyes on me (audience) because it feels like I’m just talking to a friend.
The segment feels like it is done in a flash! I don’t want it to end lol We all get up, take pictures and I leave with such an incredible feeling. I feel so grateful to have had this opportunity with Marilyn Denis and her incredible team.
